Saiyaara box office collection day 2: Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda’s film surpasses The Diplomat, Maa; to beat Metro… In Dino today | Bollywood News

Saiyaara box office collection day 2: Mohit Suri’s romantic drama Saiyaara is turning out to be the surprise of the year. The film, starring Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday, became the highest grossing Hindi film starring newcomers. If the day 2 collection is anything to go , Saiyaara is in for a momentous run at the domestic box office.
On Saturday, Saiyaara earned Rs 24 crore in India, which is slightly higher than its opening day earnings of Rs 21 crore. As per trade tracker Sacnilk, the total domestic box office collection of the film after two days stands at Rs 45 crore. Given the current trajectory, it’s most likely to edge past the Rs 50 crore mark on Sunday.
With its domestic box office collection of two days, Saiyaara has already beaten the likes of Rajkummar Rao-starrer Maalik (Rs 23.27 crore), Shahid Kapoor-starrer Deva (Rs 33.97 crore), Kajol-starrer Maa (Rs 38.51 crore), and John Abraham’s The Diplomat (Rs 40.73 crore). It’s most likely to beat the earnings of Anurag Basu’s Metro… In Dino (Rs 48.47 crore) today.

Saiyaara has also surpassed the re-release box office collections of Ayan Mukerji’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (Rs 22.04 crore) and Harshvardhan Rane-starrer Sanam Teri Kasam (Rs 35.55 crore). Those films were a fairly clear indication that romantic films are having a comeback on screen. Saiyaara is no different, as can be ascertained from its domestic box office run so far.
Saiyaara has achieved these numbers without its new lead pair getting involved in any promotions. Suri claimed that like his 2013 romantic drama Aashiqui 2, starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, he wanted to keep the pairing of Ahaan and Aneet fresh till the film’s release. While Aditya and Shraddha had appeared in a few films prior to Aashiqui 2, Saiyaara marks Ahaan Panday’s screen debut and Aneet Padda’s film debut. Aneet got rave reviews for her turn in the Prime Video India coming-of-age show Big Girls Don’t Cry last year.

“It was an idea that collectively came forward. My producer Akshaye Widhani and, of course, Aditya Chopra (owner of Yash Raj Films), who has mentored us through this thing, suggested that until the two actors don’t have anything behind them to talk about, the conversation will be filled with questions like ‘Who is the prankster on the set?’ or ‘How is it to work with Mohit Suri?’ It’s all redundant stuff, and I don’t think anyone has any interest in lening to all that,” Suri reasoned in an interview on the YouTube channel Just Too Filmy.

While Saiyaara has bulldozed its competition — Anupam Kher’s Tanvi The Great and Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Nikita Roy — it now also has a two-week run sans major competition in Bollywood as Ajay Devgn decided to push the release date of his action comedy Son of Sardaar 2 a week to August 1.
