Salman Khan actioner struggles to gain momentum despite Eid factor

Sikandar box office collection day 2 early report: Following a disappointing opening of just Rs 26 crore in India, director AR Murugadoss’ Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar continues to struggle at the box office, unable to improve its performance. While the action drama is already facing stiff competition from actor Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Mohanlal-starrer L2: Empuraan — despite the latter being caught in the midst of a political controversy — widespread negative reviews have also diminished Sikandar’s prospects. Nonetheless, based on the current trend, the Salman Khan movie is likely to reger a Monday collection figure that is more or less the same as its opening day (Sunday).
As of 7 pm, Sikandar’s India nett collection for Monday stands at Rs 20.62 crore, bringing its domestic total to Rs 46.62 crore, industry tracker Sacnilk reported. Considering that the movie has managed to record a decent figure on its first Monday, there is some hope for the Salman-starrer, although this could easily be attributed to the Eid holidays. Therefore, it remains to be seen if Sikandar can maintain this performance in the coming days. So far today, Sikandar has regered an overall occupancy of just 17.54 per cent in the Hindi market. While the morning shows began with a sad 8.38 per cent occupancy, the rate saw a significant jump during the afternoon screenings, reaching 26.70 per cent.

With an India gross of Rs 35.47 crore and an overseas collection of Rs 19.25 crore, the company reported that Sikandar’s Gross Box Office Collection (GBOC) had reached Rs 54.72 crore on premiere day.
