Salman Khan says ‘Hindu-Muslim’ wasn’t primary roadblock in parents Salim Khan-Salma Khan’s marriage, reveals ‘bigger concern’ | Bollywood News

Actor Salman Khan has been busy with the promotions of his upcoming release, Sikandar. During a recent press meet, the actor spoke about his parents, Salim Khan and Salma Khan’s marriage. Salman opened up about the challenges that his parents faced in their marriage. Salman shared that the main issue was not their different religious backgrounds, but his father’s profession as a screenwriter. Salim Khan went on to marry actor Helen.
Salma Khan’s original name was Sushila Charak. But after her marriage with Salim Khan, she adopted the name Salma. According to Hindustan Times, Salman shared that the objections from his maternal side were never about the Salim Khan’s religion, but his association to the film industry. “It was never about the difference in the Hindu and Muslim culture and the practices, the bigger and more concerning thing at that time was, ‘Ye toh film line se hain’,” shared Salman.

Salim Khan had a great collaboration with fellow screenwriter Javed Akhtar, and the duo, also known as Salim-Javed, wrote many blockbusters, like Don and Sholay.

Salim Khan married to Salma on November 1964 and they have four children – Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, and Alvira. In 1981, Salim married actor Helen. Salman and all his family members share a great bond together and are often seen together at festivals and celebrations.

In the past, Salim Khan described his second marriage as an emotional accident. Appearing on Arbaaz’s chat show, Salim said, “She was young, I was also young. Mera koi aisa iraada nahi tha (It was not my intention).” He added, “This is an emotional accident. Kisi ke sath bhi ho sakta hai (This can happen with anyone).” He also spoke about his love story with Salma, and said, “Chhup ke milte the idhar udhar kahin. Maine kaha ki nahi, I would like to meet your parents. Jab main gaya, sab mere ko dekhne ke liye aa gaye the jaise zoo mein koi janwar aaya hai naya ki dekhne chalte hain (We would meet secretly. I said I want to meet your parents. When I went there, everyone came to see me like I was an attraction at a zoo).”
In an interview with DNA, Salim praised both his wives, saying, “I’m lucky that I have two wives and that they live in harmony. Never mind if that happened a few years later. My wives are good-looking and now they are aging gracefully.” In an earlier interview with Zoom, Salim recalled that Salma had issues with his relationship with Helen. He had said, “When I told her, she didn’t shake hands with me and tell me what a wonderful thing I was doing. Of course, we had problems, but for a very short time. After that, everything was accepted.”
On the work front, Salman is waiting for the release of his film Sikandar, which is backed Sajid Nadiadwala’s banner, Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. The film is directed AR Murugadoss, who known for directing Tamil and Hindi films such as Ghajini, Thuppakki, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and Sarkar.
Sikandar, also starring Kajal Aggarwal and Rashmika Mandanna, is slated to be released in theatres on Eid 2025, March 30.
