Actor Sara Ali Khan spent months promoting her 2023 film Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, where she played a middle-class woman and during the course of the promotions, Sara decided to share her frugal side with her fans. At this time, Sara was be heard talking about not buying international roaming when she is traveling abroad, or not letting her mother Amrita Singh purchase expensive towels because she is very careful about her money. In a recent interview, Sara shared that her mother manages her money to an extent that even her Google Pay account is linked to her mother’s phone, and she can’t buy anything without her mother getting to know about it.
Talking at Times Now Summit 2025, Sara described herself as “frugal” and said, “I am aware and mindful about where I spend my money. I don’t enjoy spending money frivolously. But, yes, of course, I think a little bit of splurging, celebrating, if you want to, why not?” Sara shared that since she loves to travel, she likes to save money for that.
The actor was then asked about her money management and she shared, “I have learnt about the pie. I have learnt that you should invest small amounts in different sectors. Of course, one is advised. My mom handles my money entirely. Even my GPay account is linked to her… The OTPs come on her phone.” The interviewer was shocked to hear this and wondered if Sara was getting pocket money from her mother. The actor shared, “Pocket money? I can’t even book a ticket without the OTP.” She added that she also invests in real estate, stock market, gold bonds, among other things.

During an appearance on Kapil Sharma’s show, Vicky Kaushal shared that Sara Ali Khan is very strict with her mother about buying expensive things. “Ye Amrita maam ko daant rahi thi. Maine poocha kya ho gaya. Boli mummy ko akal hi nahi hai; 1600 rupaiye ka toliya le aayi hai. Mummy ko jhaad rahi hai (She was scolding Amrita maam. I asked what happened and she said mom doesn’t use her brains, she has bought a towel for Rs 1600. She was ripping into her mother),” Vicky shared. Sara replied saying, “Arre 1600 rupaiye ka toliya kaun kharidta hai. Vanity van mein muft ke 2-3 toliye taang ke rakhte hai ye log, unhi me se koi use kar lo (Who buys a towel for Rs 1600. Vanity van always have 2-3 towels; use those).”
