Scindia’s privilege motion against CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan
BHOPAL: Congress chief whip and Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday moved a privilege motion against CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Guna collector Vijay Dutta in Lok Sabha for not inviting him to the inauguration of Shivpuri-Dewas four-lane highway in his constituency on Monday.
Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari was chief guest at the function and CM Chouhan presided over the event.
Local Congress MLAs Mahendra Singh Sisodia and Jaivardhan Singh boycotted it because Scindia was not invited. Congress wrote to governor Anandiben Patel complaining about the state government “flouting protocol and humiliating the local MP”.
On Wednesday, Scindia sent the notice addressed to LS Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, saying he was not invited in “direct contravention of the guidelines” and protocol. Quoting the rules, Scindia said: “Member of Parliament of the area should be invited to public functions organised by a government office.”
Scindia pointed out that his name was not mentioned either on the invitations or the plaque. This is in contravention of norms, he said. “The administration deliberately chose not to invite me to the inauguration and excluded my name from invitation and plaque in a clear attempt to lower my prestige and malign my image. Moreover, it has come to light that broken pieces of another plaque with my name were found at the programme site, clearly indicating that the organisers purposely chose to use the plaque without my name. This is a serious affront to my dignity as MP.”
