Shooting at Nevada casino resort leaves several people injured; suspect in custody | World News

Several people were shot outside the Grand Sierra Resort casino in Reno, Nevada, on Monday morning, and a suspect has been taken into custody, according to local police.
The incident took place around 7:30 a.m. near the valet area of the resort, said Reno police spokesperson Chris Johnson. He said the gunman was arrested and is being treated in hospital.
“We don’t have details on how many were injured or their conditions yet,” Johnson told the Associated Press (AP).

Renown Regional Medical Center said its emergency department received multiple people with gunshot wounds.

A spokesperson for the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department said a police officer was involved in the incident, but no further details were given.
Authorities asked people to stay away from the area while several ambulances and emergency vehicles responded outside the casino.
The Grand Sierra Resort is located near the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It is one of the tallest buildings in Reno and has nearly 2,000 rooms. The resort says it has the largest casino floor in northern Nevada.Story continues below this ad
In a post on social media, city council member Devon Reese said, “My heart breaks for the victims, their families, and our entire community. Reno is strong  but we are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence gripping this nation,” according to AP.
This is not the first violent incident at the resort. In January 2024, two men were charged with fatally shooting another man who was staying at the hotel.
