Shreyas Iyer opts out of Mumbai’s last Ranji group game to prepare for England ODIs | Cricket News

Shreyas Iyer has opted out of the last Ranji Trophy league game for Mumbai as they take on Meghalaya in their final outing at the MCA-BKC ground, starting Thursday, January 30.
The Indian Express understands that India captain Rohit Sharma too had informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) that he won’t be playing the league’s last game and instead will prepare for the forthcoming three match ODI series against England at home. Mumbai lost to Jammu and Kashmir at home despite having a star studded side that included both Iyer and Sharma.
“Iyer won’t be playing the next Ranji Trophy game as he will be preparing for white ball cricket, so are Sharma and Jaiswal,” a source in the MCA informed. Sharma had an average outing for Mumbai, scoring 3 and 28 in the last match.
Iyer too had disappointing scores of 11 and 17, while Jaiswal managed 4 and 26.
The defending champions need to reger an outright win to be in contention to qualify for the knock-outs. They are placed third in Group A, with Jammu and Kashmir topping the group with 29 points while Baroda are placed second with 27.

Three Mumbai batsmen Sharma, Iyer and Jaiswal will have to report to Nagpur in the first week of February as they are part of the Indian team that will be playing three ODI’s against England at home and later they will fly to Dubai for the Champions Trophy.
