Shreyas Iyer’s battles with injuries: How many series has batter missed in last one year? | Cricket News

Shreyas Iyer had an exceptional tour of Bangladesh in 2022 when he made 202 runs at an average of 101 from two games. It seemed like the batter was ready to be a solid middle-order player both in white-ball and red-ball format. However, after the series, Iyer’s career has been curtailed back-related injuries time and again.
Let us have a look at the series Iyer has missed due to injuries
Border Gavaskar Trophy
Iyer managing to play through the first three Tests was ruled out of the Test in Ahmedabad after a ressurgance of back injury and would go on to have surgery later.
Indian Premier League 2023
Kolkata Knight Riders was heavily dependent on both Iyer’s run and captaincy however, because of the surgery the star batter missed the entirety of the season for the franchise. Captaincy was given to Nitish Rana.
World Test Championship final
The 29-year-old though did not have a productive series against Australia he still was earmarked as number five in the Indian Test side for the foreseeable future. However, for the WTC final management had to recall Ajinkya Rahane to take up the slot.
Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
After surgery, Iyer would come into the side after a long gap and play against Pakan in the Asia Cup Super 4 game. He looked in sublime touch but got himself out against the run of play. However, later in the tournament, Iyer was ruled out with back spasms.
After he missed the Asia Cup his woes continued as he missed the warmup matches of the home World Cup and the first game against Australia in the group stage. However, he later comes back to the side and plays a pivotal role in India’s campaign.
Ongoing series against England
Though Iyer has not been in good form in the series against England he has the reputation of being one of the better players of spin amongst modern cricketers. After the Visakhapatnam Test, the player was ruled out of the Rajkot Test and Sarfaraz Khan has been named replacement.
