Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan notch hundreds, joint-record opening stand in IPL vs CSK | Ipl News

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings didn’t have a fairytale return to the Narendra Modi Stadium – the venue where they lifted the IPL trophy last year. The Gujarat Titans – the team they had bested in the summit clash – openers, skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, scored a century each as the home team put together a beatdown on the visiting side’s bowlers.
Batting together for a total of 98 deliveries, the duo combined together to add 210 runs for the first wicket, scoring their centuries in style.
Captain Gill got to his fourth IPL hundred with a boundary past square leg in the 17th over. It was an overall sixth hundred for the 24-year-old in T20s and his fourth in the format the Narendra Modi Stadium, where he also scored a T20I century for India last year.
For Sai Sudharsan, it was a first triple figure score in the IPL, one he got to with a maximum in the same over as Gill’s hundred. Sudharsan stormed past Sachin Tendulkar and Ruturaj Gaikwad to become the quickest Indian to reach 1000 runs in the IPL.
Both Sudharsan and Gill were removed Tushar Deshpande in the 18th over as Gujarat Titans went on to post 231/3.
“It was a great innings, very happy to execute (the plans) in this game. I think the wicket is great to bat on. Mixing it well and going wide will be good (for our bowlers.) It was sticking into the surface initially but the wicket got better. The slower balls are gripping more. It was great to watch Gill bat, learning things from him. I don’t think it (playing well against CSK) is relatable to Chennai, just trying to give my best in every game. This knock was a special one for me,” Sudharsan said mid-innings.

Gujarat currently sit at the bottom of the points table with eight points from 11 outings.
