Simone Biles admits aging concern and unlikely participation at LA 2028 Olympics

Simone Biles, who will be 31 when the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics comes along, said that her participation in her home Olympics was not a given and that the constant toll on her body was going to be a factor in her decision. “I’ve accomplished so much in my sport. For me to come back, it would really have to excite me. A lot of people think it’s just a one-year commitment but it truly is the four years leading up to the Olympics. It’s in LA, it’s back in the States, which is so exciting. But if I’m going to compete again, I’m not so sure,” said Biles to L’Equipe.
Biles admitted that her body felt old at the Paris Olympics. The American gymnast won three gold medals and a silver last year and has a career total of eleven medals, seven of which are gold medals. Biles also admitted she didn’t know what events she could be a part of at Los Angeles.
“Whether on the [gymnastics] apparatus or in the stands, I still don’t know that,” she said. “But 2028 seems so far away, and my body is aging. I felt it in Paris.”

Detailing what had happened in Paris, the 28-year-old talked about how her body reacted after she participated in her events at the Olympics. Biles says that the pain of a lifetime of gymnastic competitions follows her around even now in her regular everyday life and whether she wants to deal with that level of training and pain will influence her decision over further participation.
“I went back to the [Olympic] village, I took the elevator and my body literally collapsed. I was sick for 10 days,” Biles said. “The other day, we were sprinting in the garden with friends, I had aches and pains for three days. So, I honestly don’t know. We’ll see.”
