South Africa pacer Coetzee fined, handed demerit point for India T20I show, here’s why | Cricket News

South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee was docked 50 percent of his match fee and handed a demerit point after being found to have shown dissent during the recent T20I series against India at home.
Coetzee was charged for an inappropriate comment he made to the umpire during the fourth T20I against India in Johannesburg last Friday.
The tall seamer was understood to have made the comment to the umpire in the 15th over of India’s innings after a deliveries was deemed a wide. Coetzee admitted to the offence and accepted the sanction, which also included the official reprimand.
India eventually won the series 3-1, beating the Proteas an emphatic 135-run margin, their biggest win over the hosts.
The 24-year-old Coetzee had a rather rough outing, conceding 43 runs for no wickets as India stacked up a mammoth 283 for one on the back of hundreds from Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma. Coetzee also went wicketless in the third T20I, leaking 51 runs in only three overs.
Coetzee has picked up 12 wickets in 10 T20Is with an economy of 10.57.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards and Oman seamer Sufyan Mehmood also faced sanctions from the ICC for breaching the ICC code of conduct during the third T20I between the two teams in Al Amerat on Saturday.
