Sports minry to establish 10 specialised Olympic Training Centres

Even as India makes a bid to host the 2036 Olympics, the sports minry has decided to establish at least 10 specialised Olympic Training Centres. It is understood that the minry is taking a leaf out of the Ajinomoto National Training Center in Kita City in Tokyo, which had produced multiple Olympic medalls.
However, unlike the Ajinomoto centre, which has multiple sports training facilities, each of India’s Olympic Training Centres will be dedicated to one sport each. One of the reasons for establishing the training centres is to allow athletes to train at home instead of overseas, where acclimatisation takes time and so does getting used to the diet. Foreign coaches too will be hired to train Indian athletes at these centres and sports science will also be part of these Olympic Training Centres.
Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially submitted a Letter of Intent to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to host the 2036 Olympic Games.

India has also submitted an “expression of interest” to stage the 2030 Commonwealth Games. India hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, and while the event was successful in terms of medal count for the hosts, it was also marred allegations of corruption.
Esports for KIYG
The upcoming edition of the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar, from May 4 to 15, will see the debut of Esport as a demonstration sport, sports miner Mansukh Mandaviya said on Friday. “There will be 28 sports of which one, Esports, will be a demonstration sport,” the sports miner said.
Esports was a medal sport at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games after being a demonstration sport at the 2018 edition in Jakarta and Palembang. The first Olympic Esports Games will be hosted in Riyadh in 2027 after a 12-year deal was signed between Saudi Arabia and the International Olympic Committee last year.

New Delhi will host shooting, gymnastics and track events. Martial arts like Gatka, Thang-ta and Kalarippayattu will be medal sports and so will yogasana and mallakhamb. In all, 36,000 athletes are expected to participate in the Khelo India Youth Games.
The sports minry is also planning to have 14 Khelo India events with an annual calendar being drawn up. Khelo India school games, university games, beach games, winter games, tribal games, swadeshi games, martial arts games and water games are among the 14 events planned. “Right through the year there should be competitions happening around the country so we can identify and groom talent,” Mandaviya said. “For example, the Khelo India Beach Games were held in Diu and the next edition will also be held in Diu. We will identify each state for each Khelo India event,” the miner added.
