SRH vs LSG preview: Can Harshal Patel find new safe home at Sunrisers Hyderabad after online trolling in past? | Ipl News

Harshal Patel is a two-time Purple Cap winner. He is the rare Indian seamer, who specializes in bowling at death with different kinds of slower ones. Mastery over Dwayne Bravo-style dipping delivery that suddenly changes in altitude being a particular highlight.
“That is art, how he rolls his wr, that is his art,” Haryana coach Amarjit Kaypee tells The Indian Express. Despite all the weapons and numbers, Harshal still got trolled on the internet a lot.
“Trolling people have the right to say anything; you can’t stop anybody from giving their views. He (Harshal) is mentally very, very strong. He is always focused on what he wants to do, and he is doing what is required for the game,” Kaypee says.

Harshal’s breakthrough came in 2021, after being traded from the Delhi Capitals, when he picked up 32 wickets in a season – which no other bowler has ever achieved apart from Dwayne Bravo in the IPL. It also fetched him an India T20 debut in November that year.
“The main thing is attitude – he has a very positive attitude, works very hard, doing gym and all, whatever the things are required for the good of a fast bowler. His approach is very, very positive, he always gives more than 100%,” Kaypee says.
He had a fruitful start in his international career picking up six wickets in his first series. However, things started to take a bit of a downward spiral since the IPL 2022. Mid-way through the season Harshal lost his ser.
“When my ser passed away, I was in grief for a week. She passed away on April 9 (2022). I was in quarantine. I was talking to my niece and nephew and everyone back home. I wanted to go, hug them and cry with them. But we were doing it on the phone, because that was the only option available. Story continues below this ad
“Then seven days later, my son was born. So, I kind of went numb for a week, 10 days. I did not really know what I was feeling — whether I should be happy, whether I should be sad. It would all come in waves,” Harshal would reveal in an RCB podcast.
He would have a decent season despite dealing with the grief but what would stick in the memory of many netizens was the game when Chennai Super Kings’ Ravindra Jadeja slammed him for 37 runs in the final over at Wankhede stadium. The trolls reared their heads again.
Daniel Vettori talked about how the perceptions of economy rates have changed and when asked about the bowling plans for the upcoming season, said “Just don’t be the team that concedes 300.” He would need Harshal Patel to fire to avoid bleeding in the end overs.
James Franklin, the bowling coach of SRH, believes that Harshal shines when the batsmen try to go after him. “Harshal I think had a really nice debut for us, he showed exactly what he’s been doing in the IPL over the last few years. We all know that he won the Purple Cap last year. We knew that obviously the opposition batters were going to be coming at us because of our huge total in the last game and in some ways I think sometimes that actually suits Harshal because he’s got so many wonderful tricks.”
