Stoinis, Mayers, Pooran and Badoni power Lucknow Super Giants to second-highest total in IPL hory

The Lucknow Super Giants batters went berserk from the word go in Mohali as they regered 257/5 batting first in Mohali against Punjab Kings in the 2023 Indian Premier League. The second highest total in the league’s hory, just six runs short of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s 263 from 2013.
Having lost the toss, KL Rahul and Co were put in to bat first on Friday. Kyle Mayers would fire on all cylinders to get them off to a power-packed start with a 24-ball-54. While Rahul was back in the hut early, Ayush Badoni (43 off 24) would continue the onslaught, adding 89 runs for the fourth wicket with Marcus Stoinis (72 off 40).
Following Badoni’s dismissal, Nicholas Pooran (45 off 19) would ensure along with Stoinis that Lucknow soared the highest total of the season some dance.
The Punjab bowlers were taken to the cleaners with everyone barring Rahul Chahar conceding at an economy rate above 12.70. Even the 4-fer nabbing death overs hero against Mumbai, Arshdeep Singh wasn’t spared as he went for 54 runs.
The innings was also second in tally of most boundaries scored in IPL with 41, just one behind RCB’s 42 from the 2013 game against Pune Warriors India.

While 263 remains the highest total in the IPL hory, Afghanan’s 278 against Ireland and Czech Republic’s as many against Norway remain the joint highest scores in the T20I hory.
Both Punjab and Lucknow came into Friday’s contest with four wins off their seven games.
