‘Such ingratitude’: Musk says Trump would have lost elections without him | World News

Elon Musk has sharply escalated his war of words with US President Donald Trump, claiming in a series of posts on X that “without me, Trump would have lost the election”.
Musk said Democrats would have taken control of the House and Republicans would be “51-49 in the Senate” without his backing, adding bluntly: “Such ingratitude.”
The remarks follow Trump’s recent swipe, saying he was “very disappointed” in Musk and that he had “helped Elon out a lot.” The fallout began after Musk publicly slammed Trump’s massive tax and spending bill as a “disgusting abomination,” after exiting his role as DOGE chief.

Trump responded claiming Musk had full knowledge of the bill and “never had a problem with it” until after it passed, hinting that the world’s richest man’s criticism came due to the cut in EV subsidies. Trump also suggested that Musk opposed his domestic policy bill for self-interested reasons rather than Musk’s stated reason that the bill blows out the deficit and cancels out the savings Musk achieved through his cuts.

Musk’s rebuttal was swift: “False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!”
Musk’s previous criticism
In the weeks prior to his DOGE exit, Musk’s once-robust relationship with Trump started crumbling amid growing policy clash. Musk on Tuesday strongly criticised the major tax and spending bill backed Trump, calling it a “disgusting abomination” in a post on X.
Musk’s comments come as Trump urges Senate Republicans to pass the legislation, which he has called the “big, beautiful bill”. The bill has already been approved the House of Representatives.

“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore,” Musk wrote . “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
