Sunil Gavaskar says Jasprit Bumrah will be next India captain: ‘I think he will be the next man’ | Cricket News

Sunil Gavaskar said that he feels Jasprit Bumrah might be the next India captain after his extraordinary performance in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy.
“He could be the next man. I think he will be the next man. Because he leads from the front, he has got a very good air about him, the air of a leader but not somebody who is going to pressure on you,” Gavaskar said on Channel 7.
“Sometimes, you have captains who put a lot of pressure on you. With Bumrah you can see that, he expects the others to do what their job is, why they are in the national team, but it doesn’t seem to pressurise anybody,” he added.
Bumrah was the stand-in captain in the 1st Test at Perth for the only match India won in the BGT. He was also the skipper for the last and final match in Sydney after Rohit Sharma opted out.
But Bumrah could only bowl in the 1st innings of the match before back spasms ruled him out from bowling in the second innings. Without their pace spearhead, India would go on to lose the match and the series 3-1.
Bumrah, however, finished the BGT with the Player of the Series award due to the 32 scalps he took across the 5 matches.

“With the fast bowlers, he has been absolutely brilliant, standing at mid-off, mid-on and every time just being at hand to tell them. I think he was absolutely brilliant and I won’t be surprised if he takes over very soon,” Gavaskar praised Bumrah.
