Jaat marked Gopichand Malineni’s Hindi-language directorial debut. The film also features Randeep Hooda, Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu in pivotal roles. It opened to mixed reviews from the audience. The Indian Express film critic Shubhra Gupta wrote in her review, “Sacrificed at the altar of all that gruesome blood-letting and mutilated bodies hanging from the rafters and savaged women forced to huddle together is coherence and plot. The parts with the ripping-off-the-clothes and the lusty men setting upon the women are just plain ugly, reminding you of the high on melodrama-and-glycerine masala mish-mashes Bollywood used to churn out in the 70s and 80s. How many heads can you chop off? How many bodies can you stack up? We are left numb, unmoving, and desensitised in the dark.”

Jaat, which has earned Rs 58.62 crore so far in India, will now face competition from Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan’s Kesari 2, which will be released in theatres on April 18.
