‘Suspension not acceptable,’ says WFI chief Sanjay Singh, calls for Executive Committee meeting | Sport-others News

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President, Sanjay Singh has stated that the Sports Minry’s decision to suspend the newly elected body last month is ‘not acceptable’ and that the Federation shall be holding an Executive Committee meeting on January 16 to discuss the matter.
“We need a properly functioning Federation. We are taking the matter to the court next week,” Singh told PTI. “This suspension is not acceptable to us because we were elected democratically. We have also called the Executive Committee meeting on January 16.”
On the agendas up for discussion in the meeting, Singh added, “We will discuss the formulation of the ad-hoc panel and hosting of the national championships on different age groups.”
Singh had been elected as the Federation chief after having won the election against Commonwealth Games gold medal Anita Sheoran 40-7. Less than 72 hours after the results however, the Indian Sports Minry had suspended the newly elected body, noting that the ‘newly elected body appears to be in complete control of former office bearers’.
Furthermore, the Minry had requested the IOA to constitute an ad-hoc committee to manage and control affairs of the federation.
The ad-hoc panel has already announced it will be conducting senior Nationals from February 3 in Jaipur and the age group championships in Gwalior within the next six weeks.
Since the election of the new WFI body, the country’s elite wrestlers in Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat had expressed dismay over the new chief, given his close association with the former WFI head, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
Meanwhile, in the national capital on Wednesday, young wrestlers from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh voiced their grievances against the three wrestlers, blaming them for halting their careers.
