The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has been the stable for India’s T20 batting talent, improving in quality since its inception in the 2006-07 season.
Initially played as the Inter-State T20 Twenty-20 Tournament, the SMAT has witnessed several champions emerge across 16 completed seasons. Mumbai and Madhya Pradesh are competing in the 17th SMAT final in December 2024.

Tamil Nadu are the most successful side in the tournament’s hory with three titles. TN also won the first edition held in 2006-07. Karnataka, Gujarat and Baroda have won the title on two occasions each.
