Teary-eyed Sunil Gavaskar thanks Nitish Kumar Reddy’s parents: ‘Aapne desh ko heera diya hai’ | Cricket News

In a heartwarming video that has surfaced on the internet, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar is seen greeting centurion Nitish Kumar Reddy’s family. In disbelief of the surreal moment, the family touched the Indian great’s feet, after Nitish Kumar Reddy scored a century on Saturday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in the Boxing Day Test.
“”Mujhe maloom hai aap logo kitna sactfice kiya hai. Aapki wajah se mere aankhon mey aansu aa rahe they. Aapke wajah se Bharat ko ye heera mila hai (We know how much he has sacrificed. He has struggled a lot. Because of you, I am tearing up. Because of you, India has got a diamond, Indian cricket has got a diamond,” said an emotional Sunil Gavaskar while having a chat with Nitish Kumar Reddy’s parents on Star Sports.
Nitish’s ser Tejaswi Reddy translated for her mother, who never imagined to be in a position where she would be greeted cricket greats.
“She never imagined that she will be in this place with these legends. She is unable to express her feeling. She is unable to believe even now that my brother is playing at such a big ground and has played such a big inning.”
Sunil Gavaskar asked Tejaswi: “Has he troubled you?”
Tejaswi concurred “Of Course sir! Brother ser bond is like that. It has always been a Tom and Jerry kind of bond. We love each other. We don’t usually show it much but we do love each other. I am a very very proud ser. He always used to say that I will make you all proud one day and yesterday was that day.”

Nitish’s father, who seemed to be the most emotional of them all, and rightfully so, was grateful for the people that have helped the young batsman from Vishakhapatnam get to this stage. Tejaswi Reddy translates for her father
“My father is very happy. He is thanking everyone name name. Because of everyone we are here, because of Nitish we are here. We’ll always be thankful to everyone.”
