‘The day he gets going he will hand you the match’: DC captain Axar Patel puts support behind misfiring Jake Fraser-McGurk | Ipl News

Australia’s Jake Fraser-McGurk was one of the stars to watch out for before the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season but the 23-year-old has so far flattered to deceive for the Delhi Capitals with scores of 1, 38, 0, 7, 0 and 9 in all the matches that he has played. Skipper Axar Patel though backed the batter after Delhi’s Super Over win vs Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday, calling him a game changer.
“I have a different opinion. If you don’t get a start, we are still doing well. So you have that cushion that you can go from the same team. So I was thinking, the box isn’t getting ticked but at the same time we are winning and he is such a player, that the day he gets going he will hand you the match,” Patel said to reporters after the match.
The Australian had lit up the tournament in his maiden season last year with his power-hitting, scoring 330 runs in 9 matches but this year, he hasn’t fired yet. The player has been given a long rope his franchise especially due to vice captain Faf du Plessis’ fitness concerns this season which caused him to miss the last two matches vs the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals.

Captain Axar would also give an update on the Proteas injury, saying that theformer Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain might return for their next match against the Gujarat Titans on Saturday.
“I had been told that he wouldn’t be able to play three matches — that’s the time he needs to recover — and two matches are done. Maybe he will play the Gujarat game. But the physio has to confirm how his rehab has been going,” Axar said.
In Wednesday’s thriller, DC beat RR in the Super Over after the game ended in a tie at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Batting first, Delhi Capitals scored 188/5, thanks to Abishek Porel’s 49 and contributions from KL Rahul, Axar Patel and Tran Stubbs.
In response, Rajasthan Royals almost chased down the target with ease thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Nitish Rana who both scored 51 runs each. But the match was pushed into a Super Over as Royals could not score nine runs off the final Mitchell Starc over.
