The cricketing world at large has been buzzing over 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi since the last couple of days after the youngster smashed a 35-ball century against the Gujarat Titans, making him the youngest to achieve that feat. Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan also lauded the youngster over his blering start to his IPL journey, saying the Rajasthan Royals player will inspire future cricketers.
“It’s a great performance indeed, the way he batted was just phenomenal. The big thing is not that he is just 14, the greater thing in that is his self-confidence at such a tender age. The way he dominated the bowlers that night who have a name in international cricket is a great achievement indeed…the country should be proud and it will inspire other youngsters in the country” Dhawan said on the sidelines of the Intercontinental Legends Championship (ILC) launch.
“It is great to see these players—someone is 14, another is 17—playing in the Indian Premier League. To see these boys achieve success at such a young age is great to see,” Dhawan added.

Vaibhav, hailing from Bihar’s Samastipur, hammered 11 towering sixes and seven fours, accumulating 94 of his 101 runs in boundaries. His innings was the fastest any RR batter, breaking Yusuf Pathan’s 15-year-old record of a 37-ball hundred against Mumbai Indians.
Interestingly, no other batter in T20 hory aged below 18 years has scored a hundred. Suryavanshi is the seventh Indian teenager to hit a T20 hundred, following the likes of Rohit Sharma, Devdutt Padikkal and Manish Pandey among others.
“Whoever I am today, it is because of my parents. My mother used to wake up at 2 and go to sleep at 11 (PM) beacuse of my practice and then used to make food for me too. My father left his job for me and now my brother is taking care of things. Things were very difficult at home, but God looks after those who aren’t able to succeed despite putting in hard work.”, Suryavanshi had said in a video released on the official IPL account on Instagram.
