They were really upset: David Miller on Gujarat Titans’ reaction to him missing start of IPL
South Africa’s David Miller said that his Indian Premier League franchise Gujarat Titans (GT) were pretty upset with him and other Proteas players who will miss the start of the new season due to their international duties.
South Africa will play 2 ODI matches against the Netherlands on March 31 and April 2 while the IPL will start on March 31 with the defending champions GT taking on the Chennai Super Kings.
“They were really upset. It’s always a big thing playing in Ahmedabad, especially in an opening game against Chennai. I am a bit disappointed to be missing that, but to put on the green and gold has always been a huge privilege and honour. And we have got some work to do in those two games against the Netherlands, so I think having a strong team – the best squad we can pick – is definitely the way forward. I will be missing one game so, whether I’m somewhat disappointed or not, the process has taken place,” Miller said at a press conference on Monday.
“We weren’t given an option in any way. Be that as it may, we’ve got our best squad on the park and we’ve got a lot of work to do in those two games. So it will be nice to be able to focus on that,” he added.
Even though the squad for the two matches is yet to be announced, a lot of huge South African names will most probably be included in it as the series is vital in the Proteas’ quest to qualify for the ODI World Cup in India later this year.
Along with Miller, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram along with franchise teammates Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen will be missing their first match against Rajasthan Royals on April 2. Delhi Capitals’ Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi, Mumbai Indians’ Tran Stubbs and Dewald Brevis, Lucknow Super Giants’ Quinton de Kock and Punjab Kings’ Kagiso Rabada are also on the probability l of missing out on their franchises’ opening matches.
