‘This guy called Rishabh Pant, probably Duckett hasn’t seen him bat’: Rohit Sharma hits back on ENG opener’s ‘we said should take some credit’ comments | Cricket News
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday responded to Ben Duckett’s “we said should take some credit” comments which came at the end of 3rd Day’s play during the third Test in Rajkot after Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a destructive ton. Rohit would hit back at the comments saying “There was this guy called Rishabh Pant, probably Duckett hasn’t seen him bat.”
In England’s last tour of India in 2020/21 Pant would play attacking and unorthodox shots which would upset the rhythm of the England bowlers. England has adhered to the mantra of attacking cricket after Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes were put at the helm in the summer of 2022.
However, Duckett would claim that other teams have been inspired their style of cricket. “When you see players from the opposition playing like that, it almost feels like we [England] should take some credit that they’re playing differently than how other people play Test cricket,” he would say at the time.
Honestly don’t know what Bazball means
In addition to taking a jibe at Duckett’s comments the Indian skipper also said he could not understand what Bazball meant. “Honestly don’t know what Bazball means. Whether it is strike, I don’t know what this terms means.”
Having said Rohit would also acknowledge England has played better cricket than what they did in their last tour when they were beaten 3-1 in four-match series and played pedestrian cricket. “They played better cricket when they were here in the last series. Credit to two (Three) of the batters who scored a ton here,” he would say.
Ollie Pope, Ben Duckett and Joe Root scored tons in the series for England so far. Zack Crawley to chipped in with contributions througohout the series with the bat. However, the visitors time and again failed to clutch on to the key moments both with the bat and ball which has cost them the series.
