Title race in Europe’s top football leagues: Barcelona, Inter hold slender leads in Spain and Italy; foregone conclusions elsewhere | Football News

Most of the leagues in Europe’s top football leagues have yielded one-horse races, apart from the El Clasico rivals locked in another epic finish in Spain and Napoli snapping at Inter Milan’s heels in Italy.
La Liga:
Barcelona are three points clear of Real Madrid at the top and the equation is delicately poised. The El Clasico on May 11, the third last round of the season, could well be decisive. Barcelona, unbeaten this year and in devastating form, have a stiff April, facing three teams in the top 10, before the fixtures ease in May but for the Real Madrid encounter. The latter’s immediate fixtures are relatively easier, with three teams in the bottom half, though fourth-placed Atletico Bilbao offer a stern test for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Both have to manage workloads, as they are alive in Champions League and Copa Del Rey.
Serie A: Like in Spain, only three points separate leaders Inter Milan and defending champions Napoli. But the latter have the favour of fixture. Apart from visiting resilient Bologna, placed fourth, they have a string of games against sides in the bottom half of the table. Inter’s attention and ambitions, though, will be split on Champions League and Coppa Italia too. The draw is not lenient in the domestic league, as they have only three sides in the top eight.

Bundesliga: Six points divide Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen. While the gap allows Bayern breathing space—and a first trophy for Harry Kane—they enter a tough phase in late April and May when they play Mainz (4), RB Leipzig (6), and Borussia Mönchengladbach (5) in three successive weeks. The Champions League engagements wouldn’t lighten their tiring legs either. Leverkusen, who failed to cash in on Bayern’s slip-ups in March, have a comparatively stress-free end to the season. It would not be a stroll, though, as they have yet to visit Mainz, besides tricky encounters against Augsburg (8) and Freiburg (7).
Ligue One: The title is a foregone conclusion, as PSG have teed off 21 points ahead of Monaco. Luis Enrique’s young and vibrant side need to win just two more games to ensure their fourth successive title. But he would want to reach there without losing a game. Winning the Champions League will be high on their priority l as well. The race for Champions League, though, is tight in the league, as five points separate six points. Five teams—dinguished four points—scrap for survival too.
Premier League: In England, Liverpool are marching to their 20th league title with ridiculous ease. A 12-point cushion ahead of Arsenal – and relatively easy fixtures in the run-in – mean Arne Slot’s side are on course to reclaim the crown. The Reds have lost just one match all season and just need 13 more points from the available 24 to seal the deal.
