Tom Cruise says he ‘passed out’ while hanging from upside down plane for Mission: Impossible 8: ‘Couldn’t get back into the cockpit’ | Hollywood News

Actor Tom Cruise continues his streak of performing death-defying stunts in the Mission: Impossible series, and the much-anticipated upcoming installment, Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning, is no exception. Recently, the Hollywood superstar, known for executing his own stunts, shared a behind-the-scenes video from the film’s shoot, where he is seen hanging from an upside down plane. In a recent interview, Cruise revealed that he passed out due to a lack of oxygen while filming the dangerous sequence.
Sharing the thrilling video on social media, the actor wrote, “Hang on…” The clip features director Chropher McQuarrie filming the stunt from another plane while Cruise struggles to hold on to the aircraft mid-air.
In an interview with Empire, Tom Cruise explained how the lack of oxygen made it difficult to breathe during the stunt. He said, “When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen. So I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”

Chropher McQuarrie shared how Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning continues the tradition of pushing boundaries in the Mission: Impossible franchise. “There are stunts in this movie that will melt your brain. There would be a day in Africa — any day in Africa — where Tom would go out and do something that topped anything he had ever done before,” he said. The filmmaker also revealed that the stress of shooting these stunts made him want to puke.

Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning will release in 2025 and also stars Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kir, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Henry Czerny, Angela Bassett, and Rolf Saxon in pivotal roles.
