Tom Cruise shrugs off father’s day question after daughter Suri dropped his name following a decade of of estrangement | Hollywood News

Tom Cruise’s professional life might be a hit, but on a personal note, the actor has faced a few setbacks, including failed marriages and estrangement from his kids. The Mission: Impossible star is returning with the eighth and final chapter in the franchise titled The Final Reckoning, and for the same, he walked the red carpet at the New York City premiere, where he was stopped for a question on fatherhood that visibly left him in an uncomfortable spot. Anyway, the actor downplayed the moment and moved on to other questions. However, fans were quick to jump into the conversation, with some bringing up reports that the actor hasn’t met his daughter Suri in over a decade.
Tom Cruise avoids Father’s Day question
During the red carpet interview, a journal asked Cruise, “What would an ideal Father’s Day look like for you?” adding that Father’s Day is just around the corner. The 62-year-old seemed caught off guard. He paused, looked away into the dance, and said, “You know…” before trailing off. Then he added, “Just having fun, man.” Cruise has three kids, Bella, Connor, and Suri, but the actor didn’t mention any of his children, despite being on good terms with his oldest, and that seemed to have left the internet divided over the reaction. The Top Gun star then pivoted to promoting his movie, saying he’s focused on “making movies, big adventures, having a great time.”

“What’s the point of giving superhits when you can’t speak about your kids publicly, Mr. Cruise?” a fan wrote online. “At least he could have named the other two, since Suri is definitely not on good terms,” a second wrote. “He just went on and on about his films. ‘Making movies’? That’s definitely not a dad activity. His loss!” a third wrote.
Are Tom Cruise and daughter Suri estranged?
Cruise was last spotted with his daughter Suri in 2013, after which the father-daughter duo hasn’t been photographed once. Cruise and Holmes were once one of Hollywood’s most high-profile couples. They started dating just a month after Holmes ended her long-term engagement with Chris Klein. The couple welcomed Suri in April 2006 and married later that year. But 2012, they broke up, and Cruise has reportedly been estranged from Suri ever since. Just last year, there were reports that the 19-year-old publicly dropped his last name before enrolling in college. At her high school graduation in June 2024, she went Suri Noelle, making Katie’s middle name her last name instead of “Cruise.” The move came months after Brad Pitt’s kids, Shiloh and Vivienne, also dropped their infamous dad’s name.

From missing Suri’s (his only biological kid) prom night to being nowhere to be seen on her first day of college, and Holmes even publicly dismissing the report of a Cruise-set trust fund for their daughter, fans are convinced they are not close. Katie, on the other hand, raised Suri mostly away from the spotlight, and she only gained limelight last year for her uncanny resemblance to her mother. In 2019, Holmes told Elle UK, “We kind of grew up together,” reflecting on motherhood. Suri is now a college freshman at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania.Story continues below this ad
Cruise, for his part, hasn’t publicly spoken about his daughter for years. Apart from Suri, the Mission: Impossible star also adopted two kids, Bella and Connor, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, when the duo were married in the late 90s. They parted ways in 2001, reportedly because of Cruise’s involvement in the Church of Scientology. However, post divorce their kids chose to be with their father. Currently, the Hollywood A-ler is rumoured to be dating his upcoming film’s co-star Ana De Armas.
