Tottenham player Yves Bissouma apologises for consumption of laughing gas | Football News
Tottenham player Yves Bissouma has released a video of himself consuming laughing gas (nitrous oxide) in a ballon. The mid-fielder himself posted the footage on his social media (Snapchat account) earlier in the week.
According to the reports from English publications, Bissouma consumed the gas after Tottenham’s final pre-season match against Bayern Munich.
The 27-year-old has also apologised for his actions through a statement. “I want to apologise for these videos. This was a serious lack of judgement. I understand the seriousness of this and the health risks involved, and I also take my responsibility as a footballer and role model very seriously,” he shared.
Consumption of laughing gas has been considered illegal in Britain since last year and Bissouma with his actions has put himself in a position where he can face criminal charges.
What happens if players consume laughing gas?
Laughing gas also known as hippy crack is consumed to get high. The gas comes in caners and is used to fill balloons and inhale through them.
The consumption of hippy crack provides a quick high however, puts the consumer at a threat of permanent brain damage, heart attack and death on some occasions.
The prolonged consumption of the same might cause memory loss, depression, incontinence, nerve damage and hallucinations.
Not the first case
Earlier in the year Daily Mail reported a star Premier League player diagnosed with an addiction to laughing gas. The player has been in rehab to get rid of addiction multiple times before however, he has fallen off the wagon yet again.
The players’ club were aware of the incident and had reached out to the player for extensive support for some time and was involved in the decision to send him to a special rehabilitation centre after he was found surrounded caners of laughing gas in his flat when his close friend raised the alarm at the time earlier in 2024.
