Travis Head on rift speculations in Aussie camp after Josh Hazlewood’s statements
India vs Australia: Australia has been battered at home India in the first Test at Perth 295 runs. The side’s batting unit has crumbled on both occasions against the Indian seamers and surprisingly this is not the first time in recent times Australian top order has shown vulnerability.
Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood in one of the press conferences during the game when asked if Australia chased the target set India responded, “You probably have to ask one of the batters that question… I’m probably looking mostly towards the next Test.” The statement did spark a debate among former Australian players and media and there was speculation if there are any rifts in the team.
However, Travis Head speaking to 7 News would deny the speculation. “I think (people have) picked the bones out of a comment on the back of a poor week, which is fine. It’s OK to be critical, we understand that. We stuck together and had some good conversations, definitely no fractions. All the boys hung out together last night,” he would say.
Amidst losing the first Test the team has been exposed to a lot of criticism and it becomes imperative that they square the series at Adelaide in the pink-ball game in which they do have a formidable record winning 11 out of 12 games.
“We play the pink ball well traditionally there and look we’re going to have to. There’s no hiding behind that, we’ve got to play better. Nothing’s guaranteed in this game, but if we work hard, no reason why we can’t turn it around,” Head said.
The last time India played a pink-ball Test in Adelaide they were bundled out for 36 in the third innings and went on to lose the game eight wickets in the famous 2020/21 series. Post that India played another pink ball Test in Bengaluru in India in 2022 against Sri Lanka which they won comfortably an innings and 238 runs.
