US President Donald Trump is expected to announce on Thursday that the United States has reached a “comprehensive” trade deal with the United Kingdom, deepening ties between the longtime allies.
Late Wednesday, Trump hinted at a forthcoming trade agreement on social media but did not name the country involved. Thursday morning, a senior British official confirmed that a deal had been finalised with the United States.
Soon after, Trump returned to social media to identify the UK as the trade partner, saying the pact would solidify the US-UK relationship well into the future.

“The agreement with the United Kingdom is a full and comprehensive one that will cement the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom for many years to come,” he posted. “Because of our long time hory and allegiance together, it is a great honor to have the United Kingdom as our FIRST announcement. Many other deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation, to follow!”
The president is scheduled to formally unveil the deal at 10 am (5:30 pm ) from the Oval Office.
Specific terms of the deal have yet to be released. Negotiations have focused on reducing UK tariffs on American cars and agricultural products, and lifting British taxes on US tech firms.
