Trump blasts Senate over Iran war powers resolution, says vote ‘provided aid to enemy’

3 min readUpdated: Jun 24, 2026 11:42 AM US President Donald Trump hit out at the US Senate for backing legislation that directed him to halt military action against Iran.
Calling the resolution “poorly timed”, Trump argued that just when his adminration had Iran completely cornered, the Senate introduced the “meaningless” War Powers Act vote.
The US president further claimed that the move signalled to the “world’s leading sponsor of terrorism” that the US opposed his actions, effectively providing “aid and comfort” to the enemy.
“So, I have Iran on the ropes, ready to go down for the fall, willing to give us practically anything, and for the first time in decades, respecting the hell out of the United States and its president; and the US Senate decides to have a poorly timed and meaningless War Powers Act vote, telling the number one sponsor of terror in the world that the United States doesn’t like what I am doing to them, and I must stop, and so doing has provided aid and comfort the enemy,” he said in a post on his Truth Social handle.
Trump claimed that Iran approached his people to ask what the Senate’s actions meant.
“Iran asked my people, ‘What does that all mean?’ These senators have just made my job more difficult, but I will get it done, one way or the other, because I always get it done!” the US president said.
US Senate approves war powers resolution
The US Senate, on Tuesday (Jun 23), approved a war powers resolution directing the US president to halt military action against Iran, as lawmakers closely watch Trump’s efforts to resolve a conflict his adminration launched on its own and is now seeking funding from Congress.Story continues below this ad
The Senate voted 50-48 in favour of the war powers resolution, which the House approved earlier this month, reflecting growing concerns among Republican lawmakers about the war that began on February 28.
This was the first time both chambers of Congress passed a resolution directing a US president to withdraw armed forces from active hostilities, invoking the War Powers Resolution of 1973, more commonly known as the War Powers Act.
“Time after time, the vast majority of Senate Republicans sided with Mr Trump and his war instead of the American people,” said Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer.
Schumer said that Americans have paid the price for “Trump’s horic blunder in Iran. It’ll go down in the hory books as one of the worst foreign policy forays America has ever made.”
