US President Donald Trump, on Monday (July 28), said that he was not “seeking” a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He stated that he would only visit China at the invitation of Xi, which he claimed had already been extended.
Taking to his official Truth Social handle, the US president said, “The Fake News is reporting that I am SEEKING a “Summit” with President Xi of China. This is not correct, I am not SEEKING anything! I may go to China, but it would only be at the invitation of President Xi, which has been extended. Otherwise, no interest! Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

Trump’s post comes amid trade tensions between the United States and China. The two countries have been engaged in a trade war, with the US raising the tariffs on Chinese imports to triple-digit levels.
The US president has repeatedly indicated that he is open to meeting his Chinese counterpart to discuss a potential resolution.

Trump’s remarks also come as the officials from his adminration are set to meet their Chinese counterparts in Sweden to discuss trade and economic issues, in what both sides describe as a step toward easing tensions.
