US President Donald Trump on Saturday said that he would impose a 10% import tariff on eight European countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Denmark from February 1 for opposing US control of Greenland.

In a post on Truth Social, the US president said, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff, which would be raised to 25% on June 1 if a deal is not in place for “the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland” the United States.

Trump further said, “These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable. Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question.”

The US president has repeatedly said that Greenland is vital to American security due to its strategic location and mineral deposits and has not ruled out deploying military to occupy the territory.
