United States President Donald Trump’s staunch ally, Elon Musk, announced his exit from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) on Wednesday (May 28), where he was tasked to reduce federal spending.“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote in a post on his social media platform X.
“The DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government,” he added.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing. I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful, but I don’t know if it can be both,” Musk said, while speaking to CBS News.
After Musk voiced his concern over the bill, Trump said, “We will be negotiating that bill, and I’m not happy about certain aspects of it, but I’m thrilled other aspects of it.”
The tech mogul’s short tenure as a government employee witnessed some highs and lows, but what captured the centre stage was his bromance with the US president.
His relationship with Trump way topsy-turvy. It transitioned from a frenemy to a supporter, before a fallout.
