Trump says US and Iran set for direct nuclear talks, to meet in Oman on Saturday | World News

US President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement on Monday that America and Iran are poised to have direct talks on Tehran’s nuclear program, but Iran’s foreign miner said that the discussion would remain indirect.
Iranian Foreign Miner Abbas Araghchi informed in a post on X that US and Iran would meet in Oman on Saturday for indirect high-level talks related to Tehran’s nuclear programs. “It is as much an opportunity as it is a test. The ball is in America’s court,” Araghchi said.
The remarks Iran’s foreign miner came moments after President Trump issued a warning that if the talks in Oman fail, “Iran is going to be in great danger”. Iran had earlier rejected Trump’s demands to directly negotiate over its nuclear program or the US would start bombing the country.

Trump further said that talks with Iran on Saturday would be at a very high-level but didn’t provide any further detail. He said that doing a deal is preferable and everyone agrees to it.

“Now we’re dealing with them directly. And maybe a deal is going to be made, that’d be great. It’ll be really great for Iran,” Trump added. The US and Iran held indirect discussions during former President Joe Biden’s tenure but it yielded no result as such.
Since President Trump issued warnings of military action against Iran, there has been efforts on the part of Tehran to engage with the US adminration, either in a direct or indirect manner.
