A painting of US President Donald Trump surviving last summer’s assassination attempt in Pennsylvania now hangs in the Grand Foyer (entrance hallway) of the White House, replacing the official portrait of former President Barack Obama.

Obama’s portrait, originally unveiled in 2022 Former President Joe Biden, has now been relocated across the Grand Foyer, a location previously held George W. Bush’s portrait, which has in turn been moved to a near staircase. The reshuffle breaks with the usual White House tradition, where presidential portraits are typically displayed in chronological order and installed after a president leaves office.
The White House Horical Association, which facilitates these displays, confirmed the changes were directed Trump. His communications director, Steven Cheung, dismissed criticism online with a blunt “Pipe down, moron,” while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene praised the new placement, calling Trump’s portrait “much better.”

The move is reminiscent of a decision Trump made during his first term, when he replaced the portraits of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush in the Grand Foyer with those of William McKinley and Theodore Roosevelt, opting to spotlight presidents he viewed as more aligned with his vision.

As is customary, the portraits in the White House foyer feature the most recent presidents, though this is not a strict rule.
This latest display also follows other recent Trump-linked artic rearrangements, including the display of a gold-framed mugshot near the Oval Office and a bronze statue of his reaction to the assassination attempt now at Mar-a-Lago.
While former President Joe Biden does not yet have an official portrait—typically commissioned after leaving office—Trump’s redecoration of the White House’s foyer further cements his unconventional approach to presidential tradition and presentation.
