The opening stand of 165 between Yashasvi Jaiswal (84 not out in 51 balls) and Shubman Gill (77 in 47 balls) in the fourth T20I was just a glimpse of what future holds for India in the white-ball format.
India comfortably reached 179-1 in 17 overs of the fourth T20 international after West Indies chose to bat first and scored a respectable 178-8.
This has been a tour to remember for Jaiswal, who made century on his Test debut and now has hit his maiden T20I fifty. The youngsters describes his sucess in two words and those are “trust and believe,” and this what his advice to all the young kids, who wants to make a name for themselves.
“I just keep telling myself that ‘I trust, I believe and I will do that.’ To achieve that I need to be disciplined, I need to eat well, sleep well, practice hard,” he told reporters after India draw the five-match 2-2.
“I think it is all about believe in yourself. You need to work hard, stick to your process and keep fighting. There will be hope. Keep telling yourself that I can do this, keep trusting in your abilities. Working hard is important, when the pressure comes that will help you.
“Representing our country is always a proud moment. It was really nice to get my fifty as well. There arw lot of thoughts and work behind it. I am so blessed and grateful that I am able to express myself. It is just a start. I need to keep milking it. I want to make sure that I am ready for tomorrow (decider),” he said.
Jaiswal said he is making the most of what seniors like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav had to say on their experiences.
“I go and talk with my seniors. We have amazing bunch of seniors like Rohit bhaiya, Virat bhaiya, Hardik bhaiya, Surya bhaiya and Rhaul sir. The way they talk. I make sure to len to their their experiences. I just try to gather as mich information possible from their talks and put that in my game. I believe in my process a lot if it would be right, the result will follow,” he said.
The opening wicket stand between Jaiswal and Gill has automatically brought the comparison with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan and is it the beginning of new era? But the Mumbai batter said they had to go a long way to fill those big boots.
“What they (Rohit and Shikhar) have done is amazing. They are legends of the game. I just think that we just need to go and try doing what we can do. we have a long way to go,” said Jaiswal.
On his transition from U-19 to first-class and international, the southpaw said it is all about the mindset.
“It is all about mindset. I believe in myself, I trust myselft that if would give my everything it can happen. I keep telling me these things. I just try to keep is very simple,” he said.
