Ukraine’s Zelenskyy says attacks Russia continuing despite Putin’s ‘Easter truce’ announcement | World News

Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a surprise move on Saturday, ordered a brief Easter ceasefire in his war with Ukraine as he declared “Easter truce” until Sunday, though Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has claimed that Russian forces continue to fight even after the announcement.
Russia’s Putin said that the Easter ceasefire would remain in place until 22:00 BST on Sunday (00:00 Moscow time), and added that if there are “any possible violations” then Russian forces must be ready to respond accordingly.
Putin said that truce would aid in determining how serious Kyiv is about a ceasefire of hostilities which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and added “We assume that the Ukrainian side will follow our example.”

We are documenting the actual situation on all directions. The Kursk and Belgorod regions — Easter statements Putin did not extend to this territory. Hostilities continue, and Russian strikes pers. Russian artillery can still be heard…

In response to Putin’s announcement of truce, Ukraine’s Zelenskyy said that he would adhere to the ceasefire but claimed that the Kremlin itself is involved in violating it continuing to fight.

“If Russia is now suddenly ready to truly engage in a format of full and unconditional silence, Ukraine will act accordingly – mirroring Russia’s actions,” Zelenskyy said.

But the Ukrainian president, in an address on Saturday night added “According to the report of the commander-in-chief, Russian assault operations continue in some parts of the frontline and Russian artillery continues to fire,” CNN reported.

Kyiv has been skeptical towards the truce announcement made Moscow as it points out that Russia has not agreed to a 30 day ceasefire proposal mediated the US President Donald Trump’s adminration.
The timing of the truce announcement has raised eyebrows as it came one day after the Trump adminration indicated it was running out of patience to broker a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine, as Moscow announced it was able to push Ukrainian troops out from one of their last remaining footholds in Russia’s Kursk region.
