Under-fire Postecoglou inss someone leaking classified information out to harm team’s prospects

Football has seemingly entered the world of high espionage with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur alleging they have a mole in their midst leaking out dressing-room secrets.
Manager Ange Postecoglou is on record claiming that a mole inside the club has been putting classified information out in the public domain, and British media has reported that the club has compiled a dossier of evidence regarding at least 10 separate such incidents over the past two seasons, with information about tactics and injury status of players filtering out.
In a piece titled ‘Spurlock Holmes’, The Sun reported that the latest instance occurred before last week’s 1-1 draw at home in the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg against Eintracht Frankfurt. It was reported online that winger Wilson Odobert would miss the game with a hamstring issue. The French player was subsequently named on the bench but wasn’t used in Thursday’s fixture.

“We’ve got a leak inside the club. We’ve got an idea where it’s coming from and we will deal with it,” Postecoglou said. “You’d like to think that everyone within our camp is working with us rather than against us.”
“It’s been going on for a while. It started last year. We thought we had nipped it in the bud but it’s still consently coming out at different times.”
The draction couldn’t come at a worse time for the North London Club, which finds itself in 15th spot in the Premier League points table after a 4-2 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday. It was Spurs’ 17th loss in the competition in 32 games, the most they have suffered in more than 20 years. The Australian manager was appointed before the start of the 2023-24 campaign, and enjoyed a lot of fan support for his pursuit of attractive football, but it all seems to have gone pear-shaped for the club, on the field and off it as well, it seems.
The Europa League is the only avenue left for some solace for Spurs fans, and if there isn’t anything to cheer them up in the second leg in Frankfurt on Thursday, Postecoglou’s own job may be on shaky ground.
