‘Unreal feeling’: Rohit Sharma on having a stand named after him at Wankhede | Cricket News
India captain Rohit Sharma said the feeling of having a stand named in the Wankhede after him was unreal, reminiscing about days when he was a young player trying to catch a glimpse of the Mumbai Ranji Trophy players at the iconic venue. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) had announced earlier in the week that the Divecha Pavilion Level 3 will soon be named Rohit Sharma Stand.
“No one dreams of things like this when they are just starting off playing cricket. I still remember those days when I used to stand outside (the) Wankhede Stadium just to enter and watch Mumbai Ranji Trophy team practice; I am talking about 2004 or maybe 2003,” Rohit said after being announced as the brand ambassador of the third edition of the T20 Mumbai League.
“We used to finish our U-14, U-16 training at Azad Maidan. Me, with a few of my friends, used to travel across the railway track to go and just get a glimpse of some of the Ranji Trophy cricketers. I know how tough it was to get inside the Wankhede Stadium back then. Even now, obviously, no random (people) will be allowed inside the stadium… but those were the days. Now, to sit back and think that there is going to be a stadium stand in my name, it is such an unreal feeling. It is something that I have never thought of and I will be forever grateful for this big honour in my life,” he added.

The former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit hasn’t had the best time in this edition of the IPL, with his highest score of the season coming on Thursday when he slammed 26 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Wankhede.
There has been a lot of talks about Rohit’s dismal run this season with the batter failing to reach 50 runs in 6 matches. If you leave out the Hyderabad match, Rohit has scores of 0, 8, 13, 17, 18 in the other games he has played this season, accumulating just 82 runs.
