“We’re lucky Mujeeb hasn’t got a serious knee injury”: Jonathan Trott on patchy Dharamsala outfield | Cricket-world-cup News

Afghanan head coach Jonathan Trott critiqued the HPCA Stadium outfield in Dharamsala after his team lost their 2023 World Cup opener to Bangladesh on Saturday.
“We see in cricket players being encouraged to improve their fielding but if they are afraid to dive, I mean we’re lucky Mujeeb (Ur Rahman) didn’t have a serious knee injury towards the end. We saw Devon Conway from New Zealand early on as well. Something for them to look at but I’m definitely not putting any blame on that for our loss today,” Trott said in the post-match presser. Most Read

The patchy outfield, which induced sand explosions constantly through the venue’s first game of the tournament, saw players from both teams slip in pursuit of the shots.
Ahead of the tournament, torrential rains in the state of Himachal Pradesh had led to the outfield being infested with pesticides after which the surface near boundary was relaid.
Dharamsala will host four more games at this World Cup including the India-New Zealand league stage fixture scheduled for October 22.
