A 12-year-old boy in the US has died after being allegedly forced into back-to-back ice baths and strenuous exercises his caregiver. The child, identified as Jadako Taylor, died on Saturday after suffering cardiac arrest, according to the New York Post.
The suspect, 23-year-old Anthony McCants, has been charged with felony child endangerment in connection with Jadako’s death, the Akron Municipal Court confirmed.
Police stated that McCants, who was responsible for the boy’s safety, subjected him to two 45-minute “ice baths” with intense physical activities in between, followed a third 30-minute cold plunge and more exercise. “These incidents were used as corporal punishment,” the complaint alleged.

Jadako began vomiting and experiencing seizures before medics were called. Despite attempts to save him, he was pronounced dead at Akron Children’s Hospital. His core body temperature was just 23°C (74°F)—more than 20 degrees lower than the normal average for a child. According to the Mayo Clinic, hypothermia occurs when core body temperature drops below 35°C (95°F).
An autopsy report is still pending.
McCants, who lives in Akron, was known to the child’s family, but their exact relationship remains unclear. A 911 caller who reported the emergency referred to Jadako as “his little brother,” the Post reported.
McCants was arrested on Monday and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held on a $500,000 (₹4.14 crore) bond.
