US influencer underwent SADI-S surgery to lose over 63 kg: ‘It was most brutal thing’ | Trending

Is rapid weight loss worth undergoing a major surgical procedure that removes 80% of the stomach? For Remi Bader, a popular New York-based influencer known for her “realic, plus-sized try-ons,” the answer was yes. Bader made headlines after revealing that a single anastomosis duodenal-ileal pass (SADI-S) helped her shed over 140 pounds (63 kg) in less than a year—but the experience came with a gruelling recovery. The 30-year-old model shared the news on the latest episode of Khloé Kardashian’s Khloé in Wonder Land podcast, released Wednesday. After the surgery, Bader initially believed the recovery would be smooth, but it turned out to be far more challenging. “I need to say that it was the most brutal thing,” she admitted. “I was in recovery hours, hours, hours, hours, throwing up. It was not normal,” she continued. “I was supposed to leave (the hospital) in one day. I could not stop projectile vomiting, and I couldn’t drink water. They won’t let you leave if you can’t drink water. I actually can’t explain how horrible it was.” What is SADI-S?SADI-S is a type of bariatric surgery that combines two techniques: sleeve gastrectomy and duodenal switch. Dr. Chrine Ren-Fielding, chief of bariatric surgery at NYU Langone Health, broke down the procedure. “Doctors first remove a portion of the stomach. Then they cut a section of the intestine, disconnect it, and reconnect a part of the intestine that’s further down the digestive tract,” Ren-Fielding explained, reported the New York Post. This shortens the path that food travels from the stomach to the colon, reducing the number of calories absorbed. “You’re not digesting as much, and you’re eating less,” she said. Bader revealed in an interview with Self magazine that her doctor recommended SADI-S due to her binge-eating disorder. Ren-Fielding added that this procedure is one of the better options for people struggling with binge eating, as it limits food intake and calorie absorption during a binge. “It’s also good for people who have hundreds of pounds to lose because it offers the absorption aspect,” she said. For patients with low metabolism, sleeve gastrectomy alone may not be enough to achieve substantial weight loss.
