US woman marries ex-boyfriend without consent, leaves marriage certificate in gift bag | World News

A woman from Texas, US, is facing a stalking charge and has been ordered to stay away from her ex-boyfriend after authorities say she married him without his consent and then left a copy of the marriage certificate at his home, as per a report USA Today.
Krin Marie Spearman, 36, was arrested and charged with third-degree felony stalking, the Beverly Hills Police Department in Texas said in a news release.
As of Wednesday, Spearman has been released on bond and an emergency protective order was put into place, according to Beverly Hills Police Chief Kory Martin.

“Making sure this situation does not escalate has been a primary focus,” Martin said in a statement on June 18.
USA Today also reported that authorities are working with the McLennan County Drict Attorney’s Office to determine if the reverend who officiated the unauthorised marriage will face charges. The reverend is said to be cooperating with law enforcement and has “expressed his sincere remorse for the occurrence,” according to Martin.
Police say Spearman had convinced a local reverend to sign a marriage license, which she then filed with the local clerk’s office. However, the man she claimed to have married was not present at the ceremony and had no idea it had occurred.
The situation came to light on June 13 when the alleged victim, a 42-year-old man, returned home to find a Bath & Body Works gift bag. Inside were a photo of Spearman holding a marriage certificate and a certified, embossed copy of the filed license. A tag inside the bag read: “Congrats, maybe call your wife.”Story continues below this ad
The man told authorities that while they had started the process of obtaining a marriage license earlier in June, he had broken off the relationship after an argument, told her to cease contact, and changed his number.
Despite this, Spearman allegedly proceeded with the wedding ceremony on June 13, acquiring a signed certification from the reverend and filing it with the county.
She was later arrested and taken to McLennan County Jail before being released.
Chief Martin noted that the victim has “had to take a lot of steps to fix the problem along with costs.” The investigation remains ongoing, with the Beverly Hills Police Department continuing to coordinate with the McLennan County Drict Attorney’s Office to assess whether further charges are warranted.
