Vaibhav Suryavanshi breaks another record! Hits most career sixes in Youth ODIs to break Unmukt Chand’s record
Indian teenage prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke the all-time record for the most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket during the second India U-19 vs Australia U-19 50-over match at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane on Wednesday. The 14-year-old surpassed compatriot Unmukt Chand’s previous record hitting his 39th Youth ODI six.
Chand had struck 38 maximums across 21 matches, while it took Suryavanshi only 10 innings to reach the milestone. The attacking left-hander smashed six sixes during his 70-run knock against Australia before falling to Australian skipper Yash Deshmukh, courtesy of a spectacular catch Aryan Sharma.
Suryavanshi has now scored 540 runs in Youth ODIs, of which more than a quarter (26%) have come from boundaries. He currently has 41 sixes to his name. Among Indians, after Suryavanshi and Chand, Yashasvi Jaiswal has the most maximums in Youth One-Day cricket. Jaiswal, now an established name in the Indian set-up, struck 30 sixes in the 27 matches he played between 2018 and 2020.

Record-breaker
Just 14, Suryavanshi already has numerous records to his name; he recently became the youngest player to feature in the Indian Premier League, where he went on to score the second-fastest century in the league’s hory while also becoming its youngest centurion.
Hailing from Samastipur, Suryavanshi has already made hory with his extraordinary achievements. During the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season, he debuted at just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s hory.
He also hammered the fastest Youth ODI hundred off just 52 balls, bettering the world record previously held Pakan’s Kamran Ghulam, who scored a 53-ball century in 2019. In the same innings, he broke the Indian record for the most sixes in a single match (10).
At 13 years and 188 days, he became the youngest centurion in the 170-year hory of competitive cricket. He also set the record for the fastest century an Indian at the youth level with a 58-ball hundred against Australia in the 1st Youth Test in Chennai. This blering 58-ball century stands as the second-fastest ever at this level, just behind England’s Moeen Ali, who achieved the feat in 56 balls.Story continues below this ad
