Varun Grover advises Mumbai Police to attend Kunal Kamra’s show instead of summoning audience members: ‘Barbaad kar denge wo jokes’ | Bollywood News

Mumbai Police’s ongoing investigation against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra took an interesting turn on Tuesday when it began to summon audience members from his controversial show, in which he allegedly called Maharashtra Deputy Chief Miner Eknath Shinde a “gaddar” (traitor). Now, Kunal’s fellow stand-up comedian and National Award-winning lyric and screenwriter Varun Grover has issued a friendly advice to the cops.
Varun took to his Instagram handle on Tuesday and shared a selfie video, saying, “So abhi mujhe pata chala hai ki police jo hai wo Kunal Kamra ki jo audience hai usko bula rahi hai poochhne ke liye ki usne show mein kya bola tha. I think ek comedian ki isse badi insult nahi ho sakti hai ki aap uske joke kisi aur se suno. Kharab ho jate hain. Aapko funny nahi lagenge. Toh agar aapko sach mein sunne hain toh Kunal Kamra ke show mein jao, dekho kya bolta hai. Par uske liye aapko show allow karna padega. (So I just got to know that the police is summoning audience members from Kunal Kamra’s show to enquire what he said during the show. I think there can’t be a bigger insult to a comedian than to len to his jokes through someone else. They get ruined. You won’t find them funny. So if you really want to len to the jokes, go to Kunal Kamra’s show. But you’ll have to allow the show for that).”
“So I think that will be the best way. Aapko samajh aaega ki wo kya bol raha hai. Wo funny bhi hoga, aur samajh bhi aaega aapko. Audience ko mat bulao, barbaad kar denge wo jokes (You’ll also get what he’s saying. It’ll be funny as well. Don’t summon the audience, they’ll ruin the jokes),” added Varun. He wrote in the caption, “Let jokes live.” and hashtagged Kunal Kamra.

Kunal’s video Naya Bharat, released on his YouTube channel last week, led to massive political controversy over his traitor comment seen to be against Eknath Shinde. Shiv Sainiks destroyed the venue where Kunal shot the comedy show. The stand-up comic faces three FIRs in Mumbai and is currently in Tamil Nadu. There were reports that audience members who attended Kamra’s show were sent notice to appear before the police. However, a police official denied that this was so. “This is wrong information,” the official told PTI.

Kunal, known for his anti-establishment views, has refused to apologise for his over 40-minute video that has garnered over 11 million views on YouTube. The comedian failed to appear before Khar police in the case regered against him. On Monday, a team went to his Mahim home to check his availability. The comedian later took a jibe at the police saying the visit was a waste of time and public resources as he had not been living there for the past 10 years.
