Varun Grover says ‘venue ki galti nahi hai, time ki hai’ amid attacks on comedians; Apoorva Makhija vacates Mumbai apartment after India’s Got Latent row | Bollywood News

Varun Grover, who is also a stand-up comedian apart from being a lyric and filmmaker, recently took a dig at the recent controversies involving Indian comedians. Varun’s recent performance was mostly based on all the attacks that has been happening on comedians including Kunal Kamra and Munawar Faruqui among others. Before starting his performance, Varun shared a disclaimer in the light of what happened with Kunal Kamra and the venue he performed at.
Varun Grover’s disclaimer
He said, “These are jokes, venue ki ismein koi galti nahi hain. Mera bhi nahi hai. Humare time ki hai. (It is not my fault or the venue’s fault, it is our time’s fault) If offended, break a clock.” The joke was in the light of the controversy that involved Kunal Kamra when he was targeted for allegedly joking about Maharashtra’s Deputy CM Eknath Shinde. This led to members of Shiv Sena vandalising the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai.
Varun Grover also touched upon the time when Munawar Faruqui was arrested in 2021. He said, “Comedian waise bhi… badi safe life nahi hain comedians ki. Koi bhi kahi bhi uthakr apko… Munawar Faruqui ko hi jail jana pada pata hoga apko. Ek joke kiya usne aur chala gaya. (Comedians are not safe here. Their life is in danger. You do one joke and they put you in jail. I am sure you must be aware of what happened with Munawar.)

Apoorva, also shared a video on her YouTube channel, in which she apologised for her comments. She shared that her statement was a result of her anger after a participant made a vulgar comment about her body part.
“When I said that statement, it genuinely didn’t come from a place of trying to be funny, or to create a moment, or to appear savage–it came from anger and retaliation. My intention wasn’t to hurt anyone, except that guy’s ego”, said Apoorva in her video.
