Vijay Hazare Trophy: Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh scored the fastest L A century an Indian in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy against Arunachal Pradesh at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘A’, Motera, Ahmedabad.
Punjab won the match nine wickets, with Anmolpreet Singh scoring most of the runs with ease. In their chase of 165 in 50 overs, Anmolpreet Singh looked to be in a hurry to finish the match as he blazed through Arunachal Pradesh’s bowling attack, reaching the three figure mark in just 35 balls. He remained unbeaten on 115 as Punjab chased down the target in 12.5 overs.
Anmolpreet Singh’s knock was studded with 12 fours and nine sixes. Anmolpreet forged an unbeaten 153-run partnership for the second wicket with Prabhsimran Singh (35 off 25 balls; 4×4, 1×6).
Earlier, the Arunachal Pradesh batters struggled to get going against the Punjab bowling attack, and could manage merely 164 in 50 overs as the team was all-out. Mayank Markhande and Ashwani Kumar starred with the ball, scalping three wickets each, while Baltej Singh snared two wickets.
Techi Neri (42) and Hardik Varma (38) helped Arunachal Pradesh to totter to their total, but it was easy work for Punjab as Anmolpreet Singh won the match single-handedly.
The previous record for the fastest L A century an Indian was held Yusuf Pathan, who had scored an unbeaten 108 off 42 balls for Baroda, the century coming in 40 balls as he went on to stun Maharashtra the 37th over to reach the target of 231.
