Vinicius hints Brazil are in crisis mode after Argentina loss: ‘We have to rethink everything… World Cup only a year away’ | Football News

Brazil forward Vinicius Jr was downcast after his team was beaten 4-1 world champions Argentina on Wednesday, saying that with the World Cup just a year away, the Selecao will need to rethink everything. This was the heaviest defeat Brazil had suffered in a World Cup qualifier, forcing captain Marquinhos to apologize to the fans.
“Everyone did badly, we played badly, and Argentina played an excellent game, with their fans. We have to rethink everything we’ve been doing, because the pressure will come, the people want us to win,” Vinicius said to reporters after the match as per ESPN.
“The World Cup is only a year away and I’ve already played in a World Cup and I don’t want to lose again. I think we have to do a lot of different things and take the good things we’re doing in qualifying to build a squad. Everyone knows how difficult it is to play in this kit, but we have to improve, keep our heads up, because we’re Brazilians and we never give up. We’re going to qualify for the World Cup and try to do everything for our country,” he added.

Five-times World Cup winners Brazil have won just once in their last four games and Marquinhos urged his team mates to turn things around as quickly as possible.
“What we did here today can’t happen again. It’s hard to talk about it in the heat of the moment… It’s embarrassing. We started the game very badly, far below what we could do and they’re on a great run of confidence. They knew how to play smart … I’m sorry for our fans,” the PSG player told Brazilian TV Globo.
“It’s not just the coach’s fault… It’s the players’ fault too. There’s no secret formula in football where you make a choice and it works out. We can all do better. We have to share the blame. It’s about understanding the moment and being humble.”

Brazil still have work to do to claim an automatic berth in North America. They are fourth in the South American standings on 21 points, just six points ahead of Venezuela in seventh place, which carries a spot in the inter-confederation playoffs.
