VYAPAM scam: 3 more accused surrender in court

BHOPAL: Three accused in the Vyapam scam surrendered before the special court on Wednesday, a day after Central Bureau of Investigations filed a supplementary charge-sheet in on-going investigation of a case relating to alleged irregularities in PMT 2013 exam.
Three accused identified as Sushil Yadav, Shivam Singh Gharwar and Awadh Kumar surrendered before the additional district and sessions judge SC Upadhyay and filed bail applications. CBI counsel objected their release on bail. The court released them on bail.

Shivam’s counsel advocate Sandeep Gupta argued that MP STF investigating the case earlier had recorded his statements under section 164 CrPc but he was neither made accused nor arrested.
CBI had issued notices to 88 accused in the case and summoned them CBI headquarters Bhopal to record their statements on Tuesday.
However only 55 of them turned up at CBI headquarters after which they were directed to reach the district court. They were unaware that any charge-sheet would be filed against them and had not prepared for any bail formalities. Suddenly around 4.30 pm the CBI officials requested the court to allow them present the charge-sheet.
As soon as the news of charge-sheet spread, the accused started leaving the court one by one. Subsequently heavy police force was deployed at the spot and the hearing was conducted amidst tight security. Eight accused who were present in the court were taken into custody and were later released on bail by the court.
